THE EUROPEAN UNION WILL HAVE AN EXTENSIVE BIOMETRIC DATA BASE
The European Parliament has approved the implementation of a new centralized system for the management of a biometric database in the European Union, a project that will facilitate the tasks of the security forces and judicial authorities.
The CIR will obtain all kinds of biometric information on more than 350 million people, citizens and foreigners, including their fingerprints or facial images. This database can manage everything, that is, with this new approval, migration agencies, border control and security forces can access biometric data from both EU citizens and people from other countries.
The vote on this subject was on April 15 of this year in the European Parliament in two separate rounds. Both the European Parliament and the European Council promised to have security mechanisms to protect the right to privacy of users and to regulate the access of security, judicial or migration control and border bodies to this data.
They indicate that the CIR will unify existing databases, such as the Schengen Information System, the Eurodac, the VIS and three new systems, the ECRIS-TCN, the EES and the ETIAS. However, some analysts consider it a “point of no return” and claim that this database will create “a centralized base for the European Big Brother.”
Currently there have been many massive thefts of data on all types of online platforms that do not make us feel the most protected, but there are other threats such as those that point to these projects serve for much more.
